Dec 12, 2007 at 01:04PM I was leaving Maria's house on the evening of December 10, (Monday), and looked up and was sure that I spotted the Comet 17P Holmes. It was so bright! And right up there in the middle of the sky! I had heard that the comet would be visible for months, and had looked for it previously when Budd and I went to Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving, but we never saw it.
So, last night, Budd and I went back to the very same spot where I saw this object in the sky, and it wasn't there. We drove to open fields, looked everywhere in the clear night sky until I thought my neck would snap.
Today, I found this blog entry from the Morehead Planetarium - what I thought was Comet 17P Holmes was a fuel dump that lasted 50 minutes. It was a spectacular site. I haven't been able to find any pictures of it on those Internets. I'm glad to know what it was, because Budd thought I was a few sandwiches shy of a picnic when I swore to him that the comet was there, it hadn't left, and I had seen it with my own two eyes. Now we just have to go try and find Comet 17P, Holmes. If you've seen it, let me know.

That's still not proof that you're not a few sandwiches shy of a picnic. After all, you're hanging out with Budd and I. ;-)
