Cafe Pasta - Fresh Take on an Old Favorite (and local) Restaurant

Perfect Food, Perfect Service, Perfect for Business or The Hot Date, What More Could You Want?

I had a business meeting last night and needed a place to go for dinner and wi-fi and not be terribly disturbed.  Our friend who is in town had wanted italian, so I remembered Cafe Pasta.  I used to own a chocolate shop off State Street, in State Street Station, and remember eating there a few times.

I called to make reservations, and unlike so many restaurants, particularly chain, they courteously took my reservations, and I told them I needed a larger table for laptop, notepads, etc.

First, let me say that they had a beautiful table laid out for us in a quiet upstairs alcove.  Our waiter, Christopher, needs to be named "Finest Waiter in Greensboro".  He delivered service usually reserved for five-star restaurants in larger cities.  He was attentive, suggested dishes, even accomodated a special request by serving half of 2 entrees to our out-of-town guest.  The water glasses were never empty, nor was the bread basket.  We didn't have wine, but I'm sure it would have kept flowing as well.  Dirty dishes were immediately, and unobtrusively, removed from the table.  I actually cannot remember a time when I've had restaurant service that good, except maybe at the old Madison Park Restaurant.  Christopher, thank you for making an important evening so effortless and enjoyable.

The food, oh my God, the food...Everyone needs to stop going to chain Italian restaurants RIGHT NOW and visit Cafe Pasta and compare.  2 of my guys had seafood, which I didn't try because I don't like seafood, but they raved.  My client/friend had a pasta dish in a marinara sauce that had just the right amount of spice and andouille, I believe.  I had the tri-color cheese tortelllini in alfredo sauce with chicken.  It was heaven.  And a hefty portion, to boot.  I never want to eat plain fettucini alfredo, one of my previous favorites, ever again.

Dessert - I can barely contain myself to describe it.  We had a white and dark chocolate mousse, served elegantly in a wine glass - again, a sizeable portion - that was just mouth-watering.  Perfectly balanced, thick, and just beyond delicious.  And I know chocolate - I used to own a chocolate shop.  This was no mix.  This was scratch.

Our dinner at Cafe Pasta for four came out to less than a dinner for three that we had two nights ago at Saffron, with no dessert (however, it did include wine).

GoTriad has their voting up for 2008 Best Of...I'm definitely voting Cafe Pasta, and you, if you love Italian food and appreciate great service, or need to conduct an important business meeting, or even have a special occasion, in my mind, there is no finer restaurant than can pull all that off like  Cafe Pasta in the Triad.  There are other great restaurants in Greensboro - Saffron, Pavilion, LeBlon, and they each have their plusses - but Cafe Pasta offers the full package with truly the best wait service, bar none.

Please patronize this local establishment and wonderful restaurant.  We're getting gobbled up by chains.  Local businesses are so important and so vital to the community, and believe me, Cafe Pasta is a business we want to keep around for a long time to come.
