ConvergeSouth Adds A Day

Actually it's half a day but it looks as this year's ConvergeSouth combined with the 1 day BlogHer event will be the biggest yet.

If you'd like to volunteer or just learn more there's  a ConvergeSouth Google Group.

Is Your Cell Phone On The National Do Not Call Registry?

Update: This post turned out to be a hoax-- sorry.

If you're smart you'll add your cell phone numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry because on Feb.12, 2008 all cell phone numbers were released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls that you will be charged for.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888 382 1222 or go to the National Do Not Call website.

You must call from the cell phone that you want to have blocked.
You cannot call from a different phone number.
Help others by passing this along to all your friends.

Kudos to Bob Church for letting us know.

WordCatalyst Goodies

As some of you may know I'm a monthly columnist/hack for Shirley Allard's Word Catalyst Magazine. (My December submission) While Shirley has worked for publishers in the past, this is Shirley's first attempt at publishing and despite several setbacks she finally has a really nice website set up to display the works of writers, photographers and artists. As part of a way to support this venture Shirley has designed some great Word Catalyst products and made them available online so you can help Shirley support other struggling artists and hopefully someday found a print publication we'll be proud to be a part of.

Why Shirley puts up with me I'll never know.

Photogenic Writer Wanted For Blogsboro.com

The employee-owned company, Blogsboro.com is looking for a creative partner to fill a void in our line-up and head-up a new Internet property called BrainsToo.com. The writer who fills this position will work closely with myself and other Blogsboro.com partners located here in Greensboro, North Carolina but will also be expected to work independently as well. Partners are expected to have fun.

We have very specific goals for BrainsToo.com but are also open to suggestions. If you can write, use simple digital cameras, a computer to surf the web and send e-mail then we can teach you all you need to know in just a few days.

The person we choose to fill this position will be given a full partnership in what is already one of the top independent online properties in Greensboro. Sales and marketing experience and the desire to make things happen are also a plus. If you think you're up to becoming a Blogsboro.com partner then e-mail idleblogs (AT) yahoo.com with the words, "BrainsToo.com" in the subject line of your e-mail so we can talk.

And if by chance you're not the right person for BrainsToo.com it might be possible you fit in one of our other positions.

Will Greensboro City Council Vote The Will Of The People

As one who has been involved in the petition drive to raise Greensboro's Minimum Wage to $9.36 cents per how I'm happy to announce we now have the minimum amount of signatures required to force this issue to the people.

I'd like to make note that the Greensboro Mayor and City Council could save taxpayers thousands of dollars by preempting the election by voting to raise Greensboro's minimum wage to $9.36 per hour which is below the Federal Government's $9.58 per hour figure required to keep up with inflation.

Also, I'd like to make note that Mayor Johnson and District 2 Representative Wells both signed the very copy of the petition that I circulated. Wells signed the petition in the parking lot of the Food Lion Grocery on East Market Street and Mayor Johnson signed the petition at a dinner of the local League of Women Voters at the church on Greene Street. Let's see if either of them bring the issue to the table.
