minimum wage
Mar 8, 2008 at 01:38PM I was just catching up on reading several of my favorite weeklies when I came across The NAFTA blues. While I generally agree with much of what is stated in their editorial I would like to point out one major flaw that is oft' repeated throughout the media: Opposition to NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) IS NOT the same thing as opposition to free trade. Free trade I fully support but agreements such as NAFTA, CAFTA and the other current "free trade" agreements to which our economy is tied are anything but free trade.
A real free trade agreement would be a fair trade agreement that protects workers' rights in every country involved. A real free trade agreement would require wages in the countries with which we trade to be equal to the wages paid on American soil. Free trade would take environmental, health, safety and retirement concerns into account. The current agreements are nothing more than price dumping with labor in America and abroad paying the price while multinational corporations get a free ride past Boardwalk, collect 200 Billion and get an extra roll of the dice.
So please, Brian, Charles, Jordan and Ogi, in future articles please don't refer to NAFTA and other such agreements as free or fair trade as they are in-fact neither.
And please keep kicking ass on the local media level.

Heard.
But according to CATO, these are free trade issues. Also, that's what the 'FT' stands for.
;-)
Yes, indeed that is exactly what CATO would like for us to believe....
