WACKEMALL-1 Recovered Intact!
Nov 6, 2008 at 08:00PM
My thanks go out to the many people who helped in the recovery of the stolen WACKEMALL-1-- the world's first and only Streetplane. Here's how it all came to pass:
The streetplane was stolen from my home on Monday or Tuesday. I'm not sure because on Monday I left for work before daylight and returned home after dark. Tuesday, when I returned home from work the WACKEMALL-1 was no where to be found. It was then I called the police.
On Wednesday, Guilford County Deputy, NL Rider was dispatched to Fairbrother Street to serve a warrant. While working to serve the warrant he noticed the stolen streetplane in the back yard of a home there but wasn't yet aware the plane had been stolen.
This morning as Deputy Rider was preparing to take his children to school he saw Local blogger's StreetPlane stolen in his copy of the Greensboro News & Record so he picked up his telephone and called the Greensboro Police Department to tell them where he had spotted the streetplane.
Officer AS Cameron and other Greensboro Police officers were dispatched to the scene where they arrested an 18 year old suspect and charged him with possession of stolen property. Officer Cameron then called me at work and arranged for me to pick-up the WACKEMALL-1 and return it to my home. Sonya Elmquist writes Police recover blogger's stolen StreetPlane.
But wait, that's not all.
I arrived back at work with the streetplane still on the back of my truck as Fox8 photog Stewart Pittman was on his way to interview me about the theft. (I've not yet found that video online but Stew did post a photo online.) And so I now plan to enter the WACKEMALL-1 in the 2008 Greensboro Christmas Parade with banners in tow for A Sister Selling Socks and Salvage America while wearing my Santa suit.
My thanks go out to Deputy Rider, GPD, Ryan Seals, Joe Killian. Sonya Elmquist Ed Cone, Kim, Paul Resh (Paul's wife, Sissy, did the cover art for Reindeer Tales.) Keith, Roch Smith Jr., Don Moore and everyone else who pitched-in to bring this story to a happy ending.
And please, if you linked to this story I'd love to hear from you for my next update. Send e-mail to idleblogs (AT) yahoo.com with your links.

Glad we could help you out Billy. It's always awesome to hear when our stories have an impact.
That was fantastic news Billy, when I saw it on Fox8 tonight it made me happy as heck. I know you and your brother with no name worked hard on it
Good deal, Billy! Score one for the cops.
Billy: Congrats. I would have posted about the theft, but I doubted the perp got out of GSO without being noticed. Jeff
I saw it in this morning's N&R, to my great delight. I'm glad you have her back.
