The Discovery Channel Comes To Greensboro
And my brother-with-no-name and I are starring in the show!
I've been dying to blog this for weeks but feared doing so before everything was confirmed. A few minutes ago I learned from a producer at The Discovery Channel
that she will be in Greensboro to shoot video on Blogsboro.com, my wacky airplane the WACKEMALL-1 the WACKEMALL-2 and yours truly.
I'm excited, scared and depressed all at the same time. I'll ask my doctor if she can subscribe something.
I know that an appearance on The Discovery Channel isn't going to make best sellers out of books by Billy Jones nor will it make superstars out of myself or the rest of Team Blogsboro but it will give us louder voices with which we plan to continue promoting The Long Tail of books, art and music and the humanitarian causes we so long to give voice to-- causes like feeding the poor, housing the homeless and green alternatives for Greensboro and the rest of the world.
If I can milk this to the point that I don't have to go back into the job market and can spend my days building a community for Greensboro's homeless I'll be happier than I've ever been. If I can finally make people understand that despite my mental condition I still have ideas worth trying and that there really is method to my madness I'll have accomplished my every dream. I can give Cara Michele more bicycles to give to the homeless. Maybe someday I can give them motorized bicycles
Fact is, this is my 3rd invitation to be on a national media show. In 2000 I was slated to be on a nationwide morning drive radio show but after driving all night, arriving at their studio at 4:30 AM and waiting for 6 hours I got bumped. In 2001 I was picked to be a guest on a brand new nationwide television show but before the show opened for the first time someone flew airplanes into buildings in NYC and no one ever appeared on that show. And yeah, thanks to friends like Stewart Pittman, Jeri Rowe, Bryan, Sara Beth and others I've gotten some local coverage but nothing like this.
No, an appearance on The Discovery Channel won't allow me to do all those things but at least it's a step in the right direction-- a step I've worked a lifetime to take.
And don't forget it's National Poetry Month and that means nominations for the 2008 Poet Laureate of the Blogosphere are in session.

Do I smell a Billy Jones version of Dirty Jobs coming up?
Beth,
Actually I'm thinking of combining children's poetry with junk projects.
I jumped over here from Greensboring to give you a shout. Billy, that video is great, and you rock sir!
Sanjuro,
Thanks! Beth is great and has a great site. I enjoy your work there as well.
