They Shoot Poets-- Don't They?

Say “Howdy,” to Nick Bruno, a Canadian poet living in... well, Canada. Nick writes the weblog, They Shoot Poets-- Don't They? and judging from the amazing number of referrals I find in my logs each day, Nick has become quite popular around the Blogosphere.

Nick’s work is a collage of prose, photography, and yes, poetry. He writes a lot about other poets and often posts examples of their works. Always an interesting read, I highly recommend, They Shoot Poets-- Don't They?

Well We're Big Rock Singers, We Got Golden Fingers...

In Blogsboro News:

Okay, so it’s not really Rolling Stone Magazine, but Ben Hwang of LUX.ET.UMBRA and one of our own here in Blogsboro makes the front page of today’s Greensboro Blogsboro News & Record for his work on the CyberGuard project-- a nonprofit he founded that works through our schools to protect our children from criminals online. Way to go, Ben.

Hey Pooh, A Honeypot!

Via: thespamweblog

Project Honey Pot is a means by which most anyone with a blog or website can pitch in to help capture spammers. It works by giving you free e-mail addresses to put on your website thus redirecting the automated SPAM bots (harvesters) to a trap that allows Project Honey Pot to find out the IP addresses of the spammers thus allowing them to take appropriate actions. This is being done because even though the 2004 Canned SPAM Act outlawed the use of harvesters to collect e-mail addresses, harvesters are still collecting e-mail addresses and no one has yet to be charged or prosecuted. Hopefully, that is about to change.

Search Engine Wars

I’ve read a lot around the Blogosphere about who’s winning the search engine wars. Some say Yahoo, some MSN, some Google, and still others will tell you some search engine you’ve never heard of is the best.

Well I can’t pretend who’s the best but I can tell you my stats for the last 24 hours as of the writing of this post. Ten searchers found this site via Yahoo Search, 123 searchers located BloggingPoet.com via MSN Search, and Google only had 1006 searchers who found this website in the last 24 hours. I’d say that makes Google a 9-1 favorite over the competition.

Oh, and as for all those “thousands” of other search engines-- none of them accessed this blog over twice in the last 24 hours including one of my favorites, GigaBlast-- the folks with the really cool rocket.

Hey guys!
Check out my girl, Dusty!

You’ll never forget her.

Northern Voice

In aggregator news tonight: Northern Voice is a blog aggregator that was first built around the Canadian Blogging Conference that took place on the downtown campus of UBC (University of British Columbia) in Vancouver, BC., Canada on February 19th, 2005 and continues to remain up and running after the conference was over with new posts daily. Some of its members include full-time bloggers who earn their living doing what many do as a hobby.

I’m not sure if Northern Voice is open to new members and therefore qualified to be on the aggregator list, but until I learn more about them I’ll leave them where they are. Should you happen to be a Vancouver area blogger you might wish to contact them to ask if they’re taking on more blog feeds from the Vancouver area then let me know.

For those who don’t already know, Vancouver is the Blogsboro of Canada with more bloggers and more blog readers per capita than anywhere else in Canada. With winters being what they are even in the somewhat milder southwest corner of Canada I can see blogging becoming a very popular pastime there.

Kate's Caring Gifts

Kate’s Caring Poetry Contest

Hey all you poets out there, don’t you just love folks who give you free stuff? I know I sure do. Well it just so happens that Kate’s Caring Gifts is giving away one hundred dollars worth of free stuff to the first place winners of not one, but two poetry contests. That’s right, Kate’s Caring Gifts is having two contests, one for limericks and one for haiku. First place winners get $100.oo in free stuff from Kate’s Caring Gifts and second place winners get $50.oo in free stuff.

Kate’s Caring Gifts is the kind of store you’ll like too. Kate sells Fair Trade Teas, Fair Trade Coffee, Organic and Wildgrown Preserves, and more... lots more. Why Kate even sells toys. How cool is that?

And you know what else? There really is a Kate and you can learn more about her sales and product philosophy at her GreenTips blog.

Look, I know Kate may look like just another marketer to a lot of you, but Kate is people just like the rest of us. It might be that Kate is looking to get some of your hard earned cash but wouldn’t you rather give your cash to someone who cares-- a start-up small business rather than just another Walley World Wannabe Mega-corp?

My thoughts exactly.

John Robinson, Editor-n-chief

Highlighting Blogsboro’s Best-- Part 22

Say howdy to local blogger, John Robinson, Editor-n-chief of the Greensboro Blogsboro News & Record and citizen in good standing excellent standing here in Blogsboro, North Blogolina.

While encouraged by long time bloggers, Ed Cone, Lex Alexander, Herb Everette, and others to do so, John made the final decision to bring our local mainstream daily newspaper into the Blogosphere and founded an online Letters To The Editor section that along with an online discussion forum, reader submitted stories, and staff blogs are collectively and affectionately known as the Blogsboro Town Square.

Not that we wouldn’t have gotten national attention without the efforts of Mister Robinson and his hard working staff (Blogsboro was already the focus of the Blogosphere as a model blogging community) but it was the News & Record’s Town Square announcement last fall that caused Blogsboro to become the focus of the Los Angeles Times who first coined the term, Blogsboro, the New York Times, Pressthink author, Professor Jay Rosen, National Public Radio station, WNYC, our local Fox TV affiliate, and most recently, the University of Maryland American Journalism Review. Let’s just say John shifted us into high gear, gassed on the pedal, and took the wheel long enough to get us pointed towards the finish line and in the lead even if we haven’t taken the checkered flag yet.

A fifty-something family man, John keeps an open mind when it comes to politics and the ways of the world. A former junior high school teacher, John decided teaching wasn’t his cup of tea but speaks highly of those who stick it out in our overburdened and troubled public schools. A fifteen year plus employee of the News & Record, John worked his way up through the ranks before becoming Editor-n-chief. He allows his staff bloggers a free hand in what and how they blog, and requires they only remain ethical and honest as his recently posted, Standards And Practices point out.

If you fancy yourself as any sort of writer then I suggest you adhere to the same rules as Mister Robinson and staff.

Up In Smoke

The Vegetable Stalker free to stalk again! Stay tuned to this VNN. station to find out, the rest of the story!

Hello, this is Princess Apple reporting for VNN., Veggie Network News. Mom and dad are banging each other in the back room again. Why shouldn't I tell them that Mom? That's what you're doing, right?

It appears that the Vegetable Stalker has been released from jail, but no one will give us details as to just what happened. We think it's a cover-up so we sent a reporter to find out more. This is the report.

“A little bit is really good
so better is a lot!”
Ol’ Veggie said to everyone.
“I want all that you’ve got.”
Was then he thought he’d cook it up.
When he started he couldn’t stop
for as he stoked the fire
he smoked up the pot.

Oh dear! Yes, it’s the truth. Veggie doesn’t want to admit to the fact that he’s addicted to smoking up pots-- skillets and pans too! Who would have ever known? Then again, considering all he gets himself into, it’s hard not to imagine Veggie smoking up all of the pots. Wait a minute. How did Veggie get out of jail? Come clean, Veggie? Is Veggie on his way to rehab now? Could it be the mighty Vegetable Stalker is really a dopey fiend with a huge case of the Veggie munchies? Might be, so stay tuned as the adventures of the Vegetable Stalker continue.

Stay tuned to this VNN. station for the... Mom, quit shouting! I'm still on the air! Anyway, stay tuned or go to the Veggie News Network website at VegetableStalker.com. Okay Mom, I'm finished now!

Make really hot money!
