All laid-off like the folks in Martinsville.

Rocky Mount and Mount Airy,
don’t it seem so very scary
and in Concord there’s only hell to pay.
Randleman, Asheboro too,
ain’t no jobs for me and you.
And in Washington, we never got our say.

And in Monroe there’s no work.
Folks in Rock Hill only hurt.
And in Danville, a river’s all they got.

even folks up in Mayberry,
