The limitless perspectives of genius can almost
give us characters too trite for discretion,
too foreign for sense, or poignant expression.
Know them, try! Impossible, by Art's motive!
Compassion evinces our real admiration
which waits for deference to an explanation
of doctrinal rule; portraits yearn to live
above the silence of their rueful confessions.
Bygone births! Pain's textured professions!
Soulless in depth, unmoving but warm,
