David Wray Legal Defense Fund

Please Help My Friend, David Wray

I knew David Wray when we were both in our late teens well over 30 years ago. I went on to join a biker gang and drive a truck for a living while David became a Greensboro City Police Officer. David and I would cross each other's paths from time to time sometimes in ways I wish we hadn't but David was always honest and fair with myself and everyone I knew.

Eventually David worked his way to become Chief David Wray, the highest ranking officer in the Greensboro Police Department. While I've no doubt David made mistakes his record as a police officer both on and off the job was untarnished until 2005 when his bosses forced his resignation and made the claim that Chief Wray illegally targeted Black police officers who worked under him.

David was only a couple of years short of having a pension based on 30 years with GPD. Three years later our police department remains woefully understaffed, corruption within the department is at an all-time high and moral is at an all-time low.

In the end the City of Greensboro has never brought charges against David nor have they provided the Citizens of Greensboro with a shred of evidence that any of their claims were in any way true. The FBI and North Carolina SBI have also investigated the charges and failed to find David guilty of anything. When I personally asked David what he did wrong he told me he made the mistake of trying to investigate corrupt police officers within his own department instead of calling on State and Federal agencies to step in.

David is currently the Head of Transportation Security for the Federal Homeland Security Agency East Tennessee District and has been totally cleared by the FBI, CIA and other Federal agencies but his problems have yet to end. The legal bills David faced without ever being given a trial in which to clear his name have cost David everything he worked his entire life for. His pension, his home, everything he owned and ever hoped to own is gone and the legal bills continue to mount. There is no way David will ever get out from under this mountain of debt on his own.

That's why I'm sending a contribution to:

Clifford, Clendenin & O'Hale, LLP
Attorneys at Law
415 W. Friendly Avenue
Greensboro, NC 27401

made payable to the David Wray Trust Account

All donations will be held in confidence.

Via Bill Knight, another honest man who grew up just about a mile from me.

Update: Bubba has more.

Update 2:  More from Jeffrey, Joe, and Ryan as support builds for an honest cop.

Update 3: Ed Cone does his part.

Billy,

I have family in southeast Guilford County that grew up knowing the Wray family, and to a man they say that he is a good person. I'm glad there's a way now to support him.

I've hear story after story along these lines, Billy, where a long-time employee will have some charge leveled at them (and forced to leave) that's proven false in the long run. Meanwhile, the employee has lost his job, his retirement, his pension, his savings, his pride and his reputation through the process. My theory is that upper management, the highest echelon of the company/organization/department is actually looking for ways to fire, terminate, lay off and/or let go of people not too far off from retirement so they (the company) don't have to pay out any benefits that the employee has accrued over the life of his employment, i.e. pension, retirement benefits, sick/vacation time accrued, etc. Corporate heads have been looking for new ways to screw over the People in order to fatten their own retirement coffers. Someone needs to expose this racket!

I realize Wray's dilemma is different in that he was trying to deal with in-house corruption, that got the better of him, out-numbered if you will, but it's still criminal and I wish our professional workforce was more "professional" than what our generation has foisted upon us. There used to be a time when one could count on a professional to hold himself to a higher standard and be a man of integrity, but something's happened over the last 30 years or so where white-collar workers, professionals and company executives have become more common, more base than what they probably refer to us as - the common herd! Ironic, no?

Hello :
Yes I'm kin to David Wray and just because I'm kin to him doesn't make me a believer. I know the truth about David and he is a well respected man. Growing up in the Wray family as been a great pleasure.
As the biker that spoke of David Wray I too have grown up only with respect for him. I wish so much that he was still in the GPD but it is so corrupt now that it is a blessing that he has moved on with his life and even gained the respect at a job he deserves.
Way to go David from a younger Wray that has really known you..............................
As for the lawsuits why on earth would they get anything - they should both be punished for breaking GPD policies that had been going on a long time ago. I truly hope that they don't get a penny. The system will probably work for them since the race card is being used. Everyone needs to move on what about David's race card - oh yeah that's right we were not brought up to call that one. We have many friends of all races. Keep up the good work where you are David and I do miss you.
