Pop A Top Again-- Tarheel Tavern #76
Aug 5, 2006 at 10:38PM
The Tarheel Tavern is rocking and the tops are popping this week as record temperatures rock the nation leaving those of us in the Tarheel State little choice but to look for a cool spot to hide and hang out with friends so we turned out the lights to save on the electric bill and set the AC on "max".
Spirit doesn't spend a lot of time hanging out in taverns but when Intimacy calls I guess even our resident Spirit Blog has no choice but to heed her call.
Erin Monahan wanted to express her thanks to Nova. Even with the recent loss of her son, Erin has been a big help in building not only the community of North Carolina writers I feature tonight but the world-wide poetry community we're involved in as well. I highly recommend you spend some time at Poetic Acceptance.
Gordon came in from Scrutiny Hooligans telling us all about his Uncle Aubrey's Great Idea-- a plan to rebuild New Orleans and put folks back to work. Turns out Gordon has good reason to be excited and proud as Uncle Aubrey will be building 2,500 to 3,000 homes in a year and providing hundreds of jobs in the process.
Dave was over on American Street before he stopped by. Seems Israel’s Genocide Against Whiny Lebanese is Making Great Strides and Dave simply wanted to point out what a great job the Israeli Army is doing killing hundreds of Lebanese citizens while only 60-70 Israelis have died thus far.
Etbnc spent most of the night over in the corner reading books and shouting, "Me, me," every time he wanted another drink and insisting the waitress bring him doubles. What was he drinking? Just water, that's all.
Laurie came in offering tomato sandwiches and BLTs to everyone there. Said she was drowning in tomatoes and being a born and bred Southerner I've yet to turn down a homegrown tomato sandwich. Maybe we can drop in at Slowly She Turned and get another.
Ron Hudson, usually a very prolific writer, came in crying about experiences of writer's block that have been brought on by his reaction to events of this crazy world. As there are 2Sides2Ron we weren't at all surprised as most share his sentiment and hope his fingers find their way back to the keyboard soon.
Miss Waterfall is two years old now. You know, for a two year old she writes really well. Unfortunately, because she's only two we had to serve her milk-- straight up. Just imagine what Sort Of Notebook she'll keep when she grows up. Happy birthday, Waterfall.
Have you ever considered your circadian clock? No, not your coo-coo clock, your circadian clock. Do you know how it works or what sets off the alarms? No? I didn't think you'd know but Coturnix from A Blog Around The Clock-- one of the smartest dudes I know-- explains it in Food-Entrainable Circadian Clock. Hey, if it involves free food I'm there!
Justin came by. Seems folks over in the cheap seats are feeling somewhat taxed and he's decided to speak his mind. Instead of arguing we decided to take him up on his offer to buy us all another round.
Ogre came in, invited us all to Ogre's place for a cool dive and left. "What the heck," we all said as we ran to take a dip. Thanks Ogre.
Oh, did I mention I flew around some artists in my new StreetPlane?
The Tarheel Tavern is one of the greatest ways a North Carolina blogger can gain exposure not to mention a few links to help out your search engine placement and it just so happens that Erin has informed me the Tavern needs a host for next weekend. Why not volunteer? I would but I'll be out of town and away from my computer next weekend.
