Victory Is Mine!
Aug 18, 2006 at 12:52PM
Okay, so it was only one battle but hey, I'm here and my opponent isn't.
Yesterday I reported to you how a spammer had used trackback to get a link from my blog to his splog (Spam blog) and how I decided he needed to go down. Well I am happy to announce that Blogger/Blogspot took my message seriously and have deleted his user account.
Now I'd like to encourage the rest of you to do the same. Don't put up with their BS, report them to their servers and take them down. Sure they'll try again but if enough of you will do what I did they'll get tired, give up, and get real jobs.
Another tactic that I've been using-- this time against comment spammers-- is to leave their comments on my blog but change the URLs they leave behind to point to one of my websites. My reason for doing this is simple: Smart comment spammers do their homework, understand keywords, and chose words that will help them in their search engine placement so rather than deleting their spam comments I've taken to leaving them live while changing the URLs so that I'm able to take advantage of their keywords. Here's a recent example. Now there are times when their spam is so offensive that I'd rather not leave it up, but when I can I do. The result: Better search engine placement and more traffic for my websites while the spammers do all the work.
Now I know not every blogger has the ability to edit the comments of others so for those of you who are interested in the best blogging platform... Well, that was the link.
