The Tarheel Tavern Strikes Again
“Missed It By This Much.”

Update! Update! Update! Newmarks Door has this post about how the Myth Of The Exploding Pinto missed it by more than this much. My apologies as this was entirely my fault. (The late posting, not the exploding Pintos, that is.)

Things were really hopping at the Tarheel Tavern this week. Why every time I looked around somebody was spilling their drink on a barmaid’s t-shirt, falling off of a bar stool, or crashing their mopeds in the parking lot. And that was before we started drinking the real beer. I guess those root beer floats were cooling peoples brains a little too quickly being that every day this week has seen temperatures in the 90s throughout most of the Tarheel State. Yes, Summer’s here and she’s wearing her Daisy Dukes and a bikini top! But she did keep her flip flops on, no shoes, no service, remember?

Erin from Poetic Acceptance is next week’s Tavern host so she starts things out with a poem I absolutely love, titled, Submission. As a matter of fact, the only think wrong with that poem is the fact that I didn’t write it. Well, that and the fact that only a woman could pull it off considering its content. By the way, Poetic Acceptance is the title of Erin’s new book so why not consider ordering a copy for someone you love.

Jamie, a Colorblind Science Teacher missed it and had a few thoughts about it with this post titled, Visiting The "Other Side" Of Town. I have to admit I was really moved by that post and came to a higher level of understanding after I gave it time to sink in.

Laurie tells us of missing Keys And Threads-- a true story about a float trip along the Dan River just a few miles northwest of Blogsboro up in Stokes County. It might be coincidence but Laurie managed not to miss it at all.

Joe Guarino writes Does China Represent a Threat? and wonders if perhaps China or the United States has missed the mark when it comes to Taiwan. I’d wager little Taiwan is hoping some marks will be missed.

In a bit of a departure from the norm, Ginger Rivers missed posting her submission to her blog but sent to me in hopes that all of you would read it. Having known Ginger for several years I know she has good reason so without asking I posted it here:

Just This Much
by Ginger Rivers East Bush

My father loved me...
just this much, enough
to teach me the straight
and narrow way.

I missed it
just this much,
haven't always walked
that straight path,
veering to adulthood sure
it wouldn't hurt to
date around a bit
and in the process
lost a true fine love.

My father loved me...
just this much, enough
to teach me the straight
and narrow way.

These days I walk that
narrow path again,
send thanks for forgiveness
and lessons learned,
remember and honor my dad.

Over at Science and Politics, Bora points out how Meddling MBAs are messing up our health care system with this post titled, Do You Want Me To Biggie-Size That Rectal Tube For You, Sir? “Yup, just like at McDonalds. Would you like a catheter with this?” Could it be the folks over at UNC Health Care missed it by even more that we thought?

Tony Plutonium from Half-Life And Times over in Chapel Hill sends us Parents May Be Smarter Than You Think which makes the point that we youngins might be missing it by more than we think. Tony also want me to point out that a lot of you are missing him because his URL has been changed due to the recent moving of his blog so please check your links and update Half-Life And Times.

Ogre thinks the North Carolina Legislature has missed it by a mile with his post, Fun Facts-- North Carolina Legislature.

Jennifer writes to let us know she’s Alive. It looks to me as if the author of Open Book didn’t miss it at all, but hey, even a blind squirrel finds the occasional acorn, right? Somehow that didn’t sound as complimentary as I’d hoped it to be. Oh well, leave it to me to be the one to miss the mark.

From over in Michael’s Corner we have Michael building a new Democratic platform one plank at a time. You can test his carpentry skills by stepping here before you jump over here. Watch your step as it’s not yet finished and you might miss it by more than this much.

And before I forget, next week’s Tarheel Tavern is to be hosted by Erin over at Poetic Acceptance. More host are needed so if you’d like to make lots of new friends, gets lots of links to your blog, see more blog traffic than ever, and generally have a great time then send an e-mail to Coturnix1 AT aol DOT com and have your name added to the list.

Blogsboro’s Mary Layton of Artful Fantasies does a bit of shameless self promotion with this post titled I Was ThisClose. To get signed copies of Mary’s books you need only click here.

And finally, Billy The Blogging Poet (that’s me, Ya’ll) missed being blown up when an Exploding Dog Twofer went off right there in front of his face. Or was that my face? Either way, I’m all right and hoping you’ll help me with more ideas for exploding dogs.

Sunday Night Update: Blogsboro’s Mandy from A Pixelated Life is having computer problems this week but now she’s back up and running with this better late than never USB Cable AWOL. After all she only missed the deadline by this much.

This week’s Tarheel Tavern has been brought to you by Hell where a lot of folks are wishing they had missed it by just this much. By the way, the folks in Hell wanted me to tell you they’re hiring. Do you have what it takes to be a devil’s minion?

You make me blush Billy. This is really a great THT - but I wouldn't have expected any less! You'll be a hard one to follow! Good work.

Very nice job, thanks for hosting. A blind squirrel, eh? I've been compared to worse things. :-)
